i enjoyed this thread
but once you shimmy into "metaphor", the scope of the claim changes so much that your audience should just feel betrayed and walk away
Like a hot dog restaurant that advertises and sets up shop and has a grand opening and starts charging customers and then the waitress comes out and says "hehe the hot dog is a metaphor"

I think God the Father (I am who am) has always existed / IS existence, and whats remarkably lucky for us is that he is also creative and loving, so lovingly created the universe with a personal investment from his side, meaning he actually cares and sometimes intervenes and has grand hopes for an outcome
and your objection above (evidence suggests we invented this) is a great one, but there is a great answer as well: of course our articulation of this comes via "invention" and "creativity" and "imagination". Shaw writes a great passage in his joan of arc play. Some skeptic accuses joan that the 'voice of god' she hears is only in her imagination. She replies, "Where else would it be?"
But in a sense I also shimmy like you, and cryptically answer many objections with "its a metaphor"
