Nintendo Wii would have destroyed gaming by making Motion Controls the default, if it wasn't such an underpowered piece of shit. It was a gamecube with a motion controller in the box. In like 2008, When ps3 and xbox 360 were giving people 1080p hdmi output the Wii still had 480i with RCA cables like the NES. everyone bought a Wii and played Wii Tennis a few times then stored it under their bed. It had no games. They had a gay zelda game where you swing the "wiimote" around like a sword. Even NintendoNuts hated it. A disaster. There are massive landfills full of those steering wheel attachments for the wiimote they made for mario kart.

The Wii U also had no games & was gay. The Switch had games and Nintendo thrived. Now they are back to having no games. The japanese are an obstinate race.

The Wii was massively popular iirc, especially with Olds who played “Wii Sports” and pretended that this signaled vitality or something.

Switch seems like it has a ton of games because most people hadn't played a Nintendo system for like 20 years. They can release Galaxy and it's like a new game and everyone is like "cool, it has the Same Graphics as their new shit and I didn't play it before, so it's New." Smash Bros has evolved for like 20 years and Ultimate is a great game. We don't see the decades of effort behind it so it just seems like they made a Good Game like it's nbd. But to actually make a new, good game is something they can only do like once a decade because they have 1/3rd the staff of Ubisoft.

Switch had a lot of games because it had all those old games people missed, plus it had all the indie slop from steam that was new to the Nintendo Ecosystem. Also nintendo still made new games back then, like Zelda (was Wii U but people forget) and Mario Odyssey

They have multiple divisions and partners that they breakout into studios iirc. Maybe they aren’t all of the same caliber but they are capable of cranking out Games.

We are getting N64 level output from these studios OYT. If that. Instead of making more games, Nintendo has “reimagined” what it means to have No Games, and the fans are loving it. Throw in a few 3DS-grade JRPGs and some Steam titles and “we eating good,” as the Redditors say.

It had no games. If our country wasn't embroiled in 2 middle east wars while dealing with a recession, Nintendo would have taken a lot more heat

Yeah I got a gamecube for Christmas after 9/11 iirc. They tried to be a serious system for like a year, with multiplatform ports, like Tony Hawk. Then it became a No Games machine

I recall the motion controls for Galaxy being really good and was convinced it was going to be part of the Future of Gaming. Turns out it was literally the only game I've ever played to use them well.
