All the Redwall books are great, unironically - they never became formulaic. Rascal: Memoir of a Better Era is infinitely rereadable, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Little White Horse (one of JK Rowling’s favorites IIRC), The Secret Garden of course, Kensuke’s Kingdom, A Sand County Almanac, Roald Dahl’s Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar collection (funny how the last 2 I loved reading as a kid before understanding most of what they were saying, but I always knew I was in the presence of authentic sheepdog warmth of soul and cool clarity of mind, gifts of the Light!)

They're mostly chill but also kind of at the Redwall drama level of intensity at certain times, lmao at me. (The Swan in particular from the Henry Sugar collection is very harrowing despite the bittersweet happy ending)
Danny, Champion of the World is another Dahl one I loved, lighthearted all the way through I’m pretty sure
(Rascal is pretty chill all the way through IIRC, as are Little White Horse, Secret Garden, and Kensuke's Kingdom - Where the Red Fern Grows has the heartbreak of losing pets which I couldn’t handle until I got a little older)
