Sometime in the last 15 years, people began saying or referring to their friends as a "friend group"

It always seemed out of left field to me, stilted speech.

"yeah my friend group are...."

"[did xyz] with my friend group..."

".. the friend group is thinking to..."

whats key imo is the insular, cliquey way it comes off. Its less about the friends, more about the delineation of the GROUP.

The inside and the outside. Its almost like, these people arent even friends, they just enjoy the idea of being in a group, that is closed off

it also dovetails with a little bit of the lockdowns, extremely online stuff wrt specifically 'online' "friends" so maybe instead of calling them friends outright, theyre part of this amorphous irl/online "group" or weird ven diagram thing where they want to refer to discrete clusters of people

I dont have any friends myself fwiw. I just like to observe these things

i think it's mostly used to delineate between different 'friend groups'

like i have a 'gaming' friend group and a 'nazis' friend group and a 'normie guys in my professional industry' friend group as well as some other ones. there's not much overlap between them. i think most people in the Current Year are like this imho

This is what I mean, people have all of these compartmentalized "groups" they play around in and play act

Its all very chilling imo

Like the internet is 40 years old and its still so taboo to admit you can operate a computer and understand/accept the wisdom and majesty of national socialism

is there really anything wrong with this though? i mean i'd prefer if everyone that i socialize with was integrated into the same social superstructure, somehow. but that doesn't seem possible

if anything, it seems like a modern luxury to be able to have friends that you wouldn't otherwise have in the past. like if i was 20 years older i'd probably be stuck with only my normie friends and my birdbrained wife and i wouldn't be able to be honest and get feedback about my thoughts on jews and nigs and artificial intelligence and whatnot

“Adulting” redditors LOVE to talk about their friend groups who they do stuff with. Even some posters, who I won’t name in order to avoid a sperging subthread wasteland. It all seems very odd. Like they want to make it clear they have a whole GROUP of friends, not just friends.

Its like theyre trying to peer into your mind and conjure up images of this multiracial group of smiling cheerful people like you'd see on the cover of a social studies book

The pomposity is simply astounding imho. Like imagine what these people actually look like ffs. They are probably ruined. The sociopathy involved in not being able to stomach simply saying "my friends" because you reflexively know theyre a compartmentalized controlled siloed subclique you keep at arms length from other nodes of human capital in your sphere to protect status is insane
