But yeah, as I recall the exfil required them to fight their way to a soccer stadium in the middle of Teheran and get choppered out. Seems likely that a city the size of Teheran might just absorb a small force of even elite troops.
In reading about it, I wondered what regular old Teheran police would be doing - they would have had a long time to respond before they even tried to get the hostages out. And a city that size in a police state no doubt has probably tens of thousands of potential armed responders. |
