Because I think current stock prices reflect things like the corporate tax cut that I'm not convinced will last. I think that will be the first tax that gets raised since corporations don't vote.

The P/E ratio of US stocks scare me too. I'd be more inclined to choose a European stock ETF- the P/E ratio is a lot better there.

I have it in my IRA. It’s dividends are ordinary income for tax so be aware of that. It’s a good part of a diversified portfolio, but you are thinking too narrowly if you are looking at it as an inflation hedge. Tons of risk re corporate real estate.

But it’s a cheap good product (like most vanguard etfs)
