no, we should be lightly grazing just about all day with regular naps and a few short bursts of activity

idk how people are dumb enough not to connect what is good for humans with what is clearly good for animals

because high functioning humans have managed space travel, split the atom, created the rule against perpetuities, etc, and have been eating ritualized elaborate sit down meals for thousands of years while “animals” sit around and graze and do jack shit

why try to be more like animals

Doing high level work for more than ~4 hours total a day past like, the age of 25 is not a real thing

Whether you're doing mental or physical work, you are taking frequent breaks throughout the day, because that's what the human body and mind requires in order to operate at a high level and maintain itself

ok, but hank said “few short bursts” of activity intermixed with multiple naps and general carousing like the irl animal kingdom should be our inspiration for life

for health and longevity it absolutely should, your body evolved through a long biological process and every change you make for the sake of efficiency is probably killing you, ideally you could accomplish both goals by not being a psycho and refusing to acknowledge this basic fact

I’m sympathetic to this view intuitively but irl humans who live like lazy animals don’t experience good lifespans or health benefits

you're not thinking of the right humans, sitting on a couch all day eating cheetos is not grazing, you should be getting some light activity while you constantly munch on something pretty good for you, then resting, with occassional bursts, and none of it should be done sitting down outside of the resting and maybe one larger meal

In general I agree with him that the animal kingdom should be our inspiration for life. Treating humans as categorically different than animals (humans are an animal) is a mistake imo

Most of the things that are wrong and dysfunctional about the modern world are a result of people's insistent, futile cope that humans are categorically different than animals

as far as I can tell the problem is that we are intelligent enough to do all of this stuff but we are still hardwired like chimps who ruthlessly seek status in small groups and we just can't square the circle, if poisening outselves results in higher status we will, demonstrably at this point, do exactly that

Yeah and there's no way to change that and it's unclear to me why we would even want to. That's who we are. That is what gives our existence meaning. Why is any of this a "problem"

The naturalistic fallacy is not a fallacy (trvth nvke but not really)

because we're going to destroy ourselves, our refusal to live in any kind of balance with anything and ruthless pursuit of domination will be our undoing, that mindset makes sense when you can never really win, but once you win it becomes terribly destructive

But that's the opposite of what I'm saying. The "refusal to live in any kind of balance with anything and ruthless pursuit of domination" is because men think they are *more* than men. Because they think they are *more* than animals. That's my whole point

Man's unnatural insistence on reaching beyond his grasp is what will destroy us. Not acknowledgment of our animal nature

Proles who insist on three huge "meals" every day really piss me off. I told my fat co-worker that she could just have a light lunch instead of a huge platter of shit and she looked at me like I was crazy. These stupid habits are just burned into their minds.
