Never purchased a bond before this but I assume it will outperform HYSAs relatively soon

Note: you still haven't purchased a bond. Bond funds are retarded. Buy individual munis that you can hold until maturity/redemption

Whenever I owned BND it would not go up when normal stocks were going up (obvious), but would also still go down when normal stocks tanked. Seemed pretty pointless.

With rising interest rates value of bond fund goes down and you are constantly in a struggle with your yield be chipped away by capital losses.

Whereas if you buy an actual bond and interest rates go up you can just hold to maturity and keep your promised yield (obviously there is more DEFAULT RISK there, but you can just buy shorter - medium term bonds).

but if hold actual bond harder to get rid of though possible to resell but for a faggot like me the idea of holding something for 30 years or even 5 yeras is insane, also i cannot necessarily see numbers go up on computer screen everyday, wtf wld i do at night

Just buy 4 or 8 week treasury bills and keep rolling them over

That way you never have to wait long if you need the $ or decide you want to do something else with it

Been doing this since interest rates went up a couple years ago

ljl how is that better than just buying SGOV short term treasury ETF? thats like 5% dividend whatever the rate is and is basically liquid cause u can sell anytime

inshallah BND will go up a few percent cause of rate cuts then next year i will move it to SGOV

Value of a bond fund can always go down as the poaster noted above and you’ve experienced with BND

granted it’s less of an issue for short term stuff but there still can be fluctuation plus with any fund there is some expense they are passing to you

With an actual bond you will get what you signed up for barring default, and you don’t have to sweat interest rate changes cause you’re holding to maturity (and you can resell individual bonds if you really want to, just more hassle than a fund)

nigga when interest rates go down BND will go up

for short term bond funds like SGOV the price wont fluctuate that much, its only long and medium term that get raped
