Anthro gets the most research money. History is #2. I don't know how Sociology still exists.

IIRC it's all based on some artificial system invented by Max Weber. In the tree of knowledge, lib farts were held to be anthro, history, literature/art/ethnomusicology etc.

Sociology emerged out of actual Marxist ideology. I shudder when I remember learning what goes on in those classes. Paulo Freire describing illiteracy as a form of peasant rebellion? They read all his books.

Does liberal arts fit the midwit meme? Extreme dullards (teachers, URM studies profs, politicians) and intellectuals both love it.

Engineering is a dead end because eventually you’ve Maximized Efficiency and there’s nothing left to do but sit there with your consciousness and think “wait this still sucks afaict”. At least with Liberal Arts you can contort and complicate words to no end and create new false realities to frolic in for a bit.

It's in an early stage of total collapse.

Most liberal arts segments are losing their share of the dwindling enrollments to business and stem, or to victim studies programs. The latter are not for liberal arts; they're much more like seminaries

And new students just don't read books anymore. They'll have to be carried through dumbed-down majors and grad school won't be an option.

As the grad school ranks dwindle, it'll then be a downward spiral

“Business” should just not exist. the idea that people are dumb enough to need training in “marketing” or something is an insult to humanity.

It's unfortunate because there's some cool stuff happening on the margins. One of my friends is an anthropology prof, but instead of doing normal gay anthro shit he specializes in "economic anthropology." What he does is get interviews with all these people who run global finance institutions. He asks them about their personal beliefs, their religious backgrounds, what motivates them to do certain things, etc.

These people totally let their guard down with him in ways they never would for any other outsider. He's showing up with these flashy academic credentials from America and he's a mutt himself, so people from all these other countries will sit and talk to him.

Then he writes books about what's going on inside these institutions, and it costs $38.99 (he gets 1/10 of a penny) so people read zerohedge instead.

I should add that liberal arts can thrive outside universities. A lot of what used to be spoken only in universities is part of the mainstream public discourse now. Reading Foucault doesn't make you special anymore, it makes you boring. Stuff that used to shock me is appearing in elementary school libraries.
