I think that like 9/11 they were tipped off by (IDF) informants (within Hamas) and deliberately chose to do nothing as the intended target was of no military importance but definitely of the succeeding emotional value necessary to get the war of expansion and misdirection underway Frankly? I grew more sympathy for Israel's position late into Gaza but with the strikes on Lebanon have gone back to having little. The demeanor of these people celebrating bloodthirst (I saw an IDF barracks dancing around and---not flame---stabbing a picture of a dead baby with that Ben-Otmir guy in attendance) while shamelessly still calling themselves The Most Moral Army in the World has been ludicrous |

I blame part of this on Western aid to both parties but it's a grift and at some primordial ethnocentric level both the patriarchs of Hamas and the IDF must know it. Not even this current instance of war is really aimed at putting an end to the conflict in its entirety, and there is more than enough of a corpus of scholarship on ending militias like Hamas from the last 80 years of Western war procedure and technique that it would already be done had they really wanted it Neither party is trying to really "end the fighting", it's far too lucrative and the people in it for the $$take$$ are mostly insulated from the violence |
