We lived in the golden age of gaming. They advanced so fucking quickly during our youth. I was spoiled and I assumed that same trajectory would continue and we'd have insane games by now. Instead, almost all of today's games are objectively worse. It's very sad. I don't know where it all went wrong.

It's ljl I play only one game and infrequently, league of legends, and every time I play I end up getting some suspension for being mean to the millennials. It's lol the safe spaces. You literally can't even say "you suck" without everyone jumping down your throat. These kids today need to be beaten with a bat.

I'm 100% serious. They even have this fascist thing called "the tribunal" where if people you are in the game with report you your case will be heard by fellow gamers on the tribunal who will review the chat logs and render your punishment. Lmao

Consolidation of publishers. Focus on earnings/commercial success vs. good games.

Advent of higher-end graphics meant costs became quite significant. Big budgets require guaranteed ROIs so publishers play it safe with cookie-cutter formulas and sequels

You would think there'd be crazy nerds making 180 independent games or some shit and raping the big studios, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Why are there no more Carmacks or whatever

No Man's Sky was a crazy indy game but it sort of sucked I hear.

3D graphics shit is expensive as fuck I think. All the indie stuff seems to be old school type games

there actually is a significant indie developer sphere doing interesting things. nothing revolutionary, but closer to the spirit of the 90's.

Doesn't seem like anything that great. I went with my tech nerd friends to some indie conventions when I lived in LA and it all seemed pretty lame, nothing legit good
