A fun fact about it is it was produced by Nigel Goodrich and at times sounds exactly like OK Computer. There are lots of interstitial bleeps and bloops like tweaking the knobs on a Roland Space Echo or goofy portamento synth noises that are nearly identical on both TT and OKC. I believe TT came out shortly after OKC. Nigel brought all his unique production tricks. It's too bad Stephen won't acknowledge this.

i sorely regret not going to see them. i coulda seen them from 1994 on but i was busy going to hardcore shows at the same damn venues. i remember seeing black cat schedules and pavement would be on them all the time. oh well.

re the radiohead connection: i left lol school orientation early in 2003 to see malkmus/radiohead at merriweather poast pavilion in columbia, md (home of a noted poaster). i unfortunately missed steve as well as the first couple radiohead songs, but i got to see him at the 930 club in dc and trocadero in philly earlier that year. he was 18000000000000000. wasn't doing any pavement songs yet as they'd just broken up a couple years before.

I also loved how Nigel clapped back at him. Stephen kept calling TT this bloated over polished record and said oh well if the label gives you 100K to make a record of course it's going to be good. And Nigel said I slept on the floor of a friend's apartment in NYC to make that record. So yeah no airs. Nigel clearly had more grit and vision and a bigger career than Stephen. If he had just accepted that the world enjoys pop songs and shut up and played the hits he would have been ten times more famous but he had to throw fits and make it all about him and his dumb feelings lol.

our adult cat didn't react too horribly to him. we didn't really keep them in separate rooms too much (just a night for a couple days) and she was initially hissing and growling at him but that's mostly stopped. she's still kinda keeping her distance tho.
