is this because most law students would quit this profession while they are ahead if they knew a significant portion of their day-to-day jobs will involve this work?

it's so fact specific. they'd have to include like a fake packet of emails and then have you go through them generating objections and privilege logs? lol.

they could at least teach basic written objections under the federal rules. first-year biglaw attys are clueless about this stuff.

been doing it 6 years now and i still am kind of clueless. of the thousands of written discovery objections ive dutifully copy and pasted into discovery responses, not one of them has ever been of any consequence. what is the point of this whole charade?

otherwise i do agree that it would be useful to teach law students. i used to stress about discovery responses as a first/second year bc i didn’t know wtf i was doing

Black marker is TTT. If your scanner's contrast or black level settings aren't right, you'll be able to see text. Just use your pdf software's redaction function.

I have a plan of doing a barbri type real practical law firm skill 4 week “boot camp” just like this actually. It would drill in real important shit to hit the ground running. 90% of it would be keeping them in an office organizing and responding to fake emails until 2 am every night.

My LS had pretrial practice and trial practice classes (electives). But yeah, they didn't teach doc review, lol. It was stuff like written discovery, depos, etc.

I took a class on it in law school. Professor spent half the semester teaching us how to write the definition section of discovery requests to make sure we defined “documents” etc correctly. In practice those never apply because the requests pretty much just ask you to produce everything relevant about the accident or event and a judge would sanction you for not producing an email because the term document didn’t specifically include emails.

TLDR: my professor practiced law for 2 years, became a professor, and taught nothing of importance on discovery in the discovery class
