Had an extended fantasy about becoming a nontrad public defender today

Was surprised to learn that PD salaries are now low six figures. I immediately started fantasizing about leaving my wife as soon as the kids are grown and living with my parents as they advance in age to the point where they need to transition into hospice, being with them to help with that process, while also living a Saul Goodman style methhead chaos molding existence during the work week. Then I’d retire in my mid 60s with a 50% pension plus 401k and maxed social security after maintaining a savings rate of 80k a year for two decades while living at my parents paid off house. Seems like an upgrade over the suicidal ideation promoting faceless suburban home and megacorp sinecure existence I live today. I started in my mid 30s. we've had plenty of attorneys in their 40s and 50s join our office too (some came in with some civil litigation experience and others were former DAs).
