He's an arrogant shit and was talking shit abt the boat saying its not seaworthy blahblah even pointing at old electric switches and saying must be replaced even though they work
Anyway, out of blue today he says if I am going to sell he'd pay cash right now, but he only offered 15k which is what I bought it for. I thne put another 15k or so into it so 30k is the NEEDFUL price
I imagine though maybe in a month once I get tired of this shit I can get him into the 20's, I'd sell for 25k. That is basically no loss for me cause I'm saying loads of money living on the boat.
If I can sell it then can go back to my life of doing nothing, having no commitments, not owning anything, having all my earthy possessions in my suitcase, etc. It was 18000000 and I miss that life |

Every system comes with a diesel generator. They are not cheaper than diesel. They incorporate the diesel and about 20k of other equipment and batteries to make a theoretically more reliable system.

1500 w in solar panels would produce less than 200AH charge per day.

An electric motor is not the problem. he cannot generate sufficient electricity to run his boat from solar alone. Adding a wind generator would still not be enough.
with a good diesel tommy and a random turd could probably drive the boat to Thailand in a week without ever raising the sails.
with an electric motor running off solar it would take months.
The ability to go where you need to go immediately and at full speed is the #1 way to be safe. you can go 600 miles in any direction in 72 hours with a diesel. with solar only electric you could go 30 miles.
A storm is coming in 3 days and the only safe harbor is 200 miles away upwind/ with no wind. You will die if you rely on solar. |

Get the hellosirs to help you sail it to a place where there is a good mechanic, In Malaysia if necessary, but preferably somewhere near by. Let mechanic determine if diesel can be fixed and kept running at a low cost. If no get a used - less than 2000 hr Kubota or Daihatsu diesel engine and let the mechanic install and prep the engine for a marine environment. Do all other necessary repairs. Sail to Malaysia or Thailand. You will be able to get 30-40k for the boat there if it has a decent engine. You should be able to get a decent engine installed for 5k.
In travelling to Malaysia/Thailand you will learn more about sailing and the sailing life. You may decide that you like it. If you don't think it is for you you will still have had a great adventure and it will not have cost too much $. |

and then the rigging (the wires holding the mast and sails up) is from 2011, u are supposed to repair that ever 10 years, so if i tried to sell that is an issue too
so its basically the engine, rigging and the wood structure that wld be HUGE issues for selling this boat
and this is in SE ASIA where theres no real market, u have to get lucky and sell at right time to find right buyer
this guy seems interested so if he does above 20k i shld just do it, he's coming to bought at 1pm today and im sure will bitch and say this is all furked up and what not but if he offered 16k dont see why he wont do 20k, 23k ideally |

I can tell from the pics you've shown that the insides are full of glop because the oil was never changed. That glop caused certain parts to wear out from friction, and those will have to be replaced. But most of the parts just need to be soaked in solvents so that they come out looking sparkling new. Then they need to be reassembled.
People rebuild engines all the time. Filipinos can do it I'm sure. Have someone haul that fucking engine out there and take it to someone who can rebuild it, then have someone haul it back to the boat and install it. STOP hiring people to fix this or that and just rebuild the fucker. If it takes a month, go somewhere else and take a break, and just go back to the Philippines when the engine is ready to be put back in the ship. That engine actually looks FUN to rebuild and would make a good project for someone who's just learning. |

Now it looks like engine is 95% of the reason he's selling.
The bottom line is this boat was only as cheap as it was because the engine needed to be rebuilt. Tommy was thinking it was a good deal because he never took the time to inspect this one CRITICAL component. He thought "I'm using wind power, don't need no engine nigga," like he had magically solved this problem every other boat owner has to deal with. He could have used this as an opportunity to learn about engines, but he signed up for this believing he could just throw an electric in there and never have to run diesel engine. Fucking delusional. The geek in me would take that engine apart and only sell if I can't put it back together. A disassembled engine is no worse than an engine that needs rebuilding (better really, since you already disassembled it), so why not at least try before selling? |
