Your dryer won't dry clothes because it hasn't gotten a firmware update and is stuck on cool mode
Your sprinklers haven't worked for two weeks because they're too old to be compatible with your new router security features
You can't turn up the thermostat because the app won't load on your phone anymore

I don't understand how a washer and dryer being on the internet can help in any sort of way
The sprinkler I do understand, it's nice if that shit can adjust itself to the weather. There's an open source project for that, OpenSprinkler. Probably will last longer than commercial stuff

They sell it as features "Oh it has ultra load balancing etc." - but then your washer just yells at you because its mad you put a towel in the wash with a t-shirt.
Just fill up with soapy water and spin around and stfu. Who asked for a sensor to see it the load was balanced?
It's like people looked at the ease of use and reliablity of printers (i can't connect to the computer that a cable is running too derp derp derp) and thought - what if we applied this to everything?

I can't disable these stupid appliance notifications from my Samsung "The Frame"
Why would I want dishwasher updates on my picture frame?

China’s hair-thin fiber chips bring computer-level processing into washable fabric
Fiber chip against human finger.China Daily
Chinese scientists have developed fully flexible fiber chips that embed complete electronic circuits inside strands as thin as human hair.
The advance brings electronic textiles closer to functioning like computers and displays, while remaining soft, stretchable, and machine washable.
