not sure who's behind it, but people are getting paid to promote it. It could be sponsored by foreigners but I don't know to what end.

They always steer you toward Mint but that's just Ubuntu with older packages:

Goobers will be frustrated and switch right back to Windows. There's no payoff to investing the time it takes to do basic shit in Linux.

No one is recommending Debian. They are all pushing Ubuntu spins. Ubuntu is also moving to rust, which an unfamiliar coding language for most Linux users. Ubuntu also has all kinds of proprietary drivers. I think someone is banking on Ubuntu being easier to hack than Windows, especially with MS putting all your shit on the cloud. Windows 11 is already some kind of shape-shifting cloud OS that barely lives on your PC. People installing Linux will go months without installing security updates, or worse like the fags who ran 4chan. Now all the shit will be written in a programming language you never learned, or it will be flat out proprietary like Winblows.

hackers will always target Windows, as it has the largest audience

are you going to write malware for the 71% of Windows devices or the 4% of Linux users

Not a lot of sensitive info is kept on Windows systems. If you want to hack IoT and cloud services, 98% chance you'll get a Debian shell. When people jailbreak these shitdevices they always take debian commands. Now Ubuntu is moving all those basic commands to rust though. It's one reason I think Slackware still has a future. Even if you get in, do you know how to navigate a Slackware terminal?
