But I totally understand why people would do this because 95% of red brick houses look like shit, and they look okay when painted white. |

It was originally yellow brick, but turned black from centuries of smog and soot. When they cleaned it one day, they were surprised to learn this. Then they thought it looked too weird in its original color and repainted it black because it's what people were used to.
