We all started massed together in a crowd of dudes, like 16 years old.

"The Earth" started sniping bad shit and tragedies at us, sporadically. Some bros got headshot. Gone. Some got drilled in the knee or thigh. Hobbled. Drugs, booze. Shitty parents. The riflemen started to unleash some serious clips. Great numbers of us chose liberal arts or law school. Just a cascade of dudes getting laid out, who would never really regain their footing. "The world" then launched fucking grenades. We married and/or impregnated crazy women. Fucking limbs and body parts scattered everywhere. Collateral damage. Lay-offs, ITEs, boomers, you name it. You get to my age and look around at who is still standing -- guys are alive, but their faces are twitching, there is blood (whose?) across their cheeks and foreheads, they are standing alone, no one near them. Each little noise causes our anuses to clench or release involuntarily. Shell shocked as hell. Alive, but surrounded by carnage. Dudes are crazy, paranoid about their wives, anxious to death about money, jumping painfully on one busted ankle, our backs contorted and aching, our shit in tatters.

By 40s and I imagine 50s, there are very few healthy bros left. And the fire now is raining down harder. Cancer. Accidents. Floods of alcohol. Insanity. Divorce. Kids hurt or sick or ungrateful or, God forbid, dead.

Somewhere behind the wall, the earth is sliding the "your parents are about to die" missile into its silo.
