If I had to guess I'd say that the information-dense to garish styles that exist sometimes within street culture in the West are also partially a reaction to the general greyness that has crept into the West from Economy becoming the focal point of where experiential meaning can be derived from. I love my Brooks Brothers sweaters and polos and things but sometimes you just want to wig out and wear a weird scarf or garish jacket and let the boys and girls have a good laugh and a good time

Fashion in general has an enormous corpus of "why" and "what" that people tend to brush past due to the vapidity of some of the ways that the field winds up being expressed through the economy and its necessities, but like any art, not only are the expressions as they are received IYL important for the well being & emotional and spiritual fitness of the people being exposed to them but they also have symbolic value that the divine works through as well
