i've been watching classical guitarists on youtube and it's wild to think how much time and effort these people put in only to get like 50k views. there are hundreds of people who have dedicated their lives to it for almost no material gain. they're truly incredible and 99.9% of the public doesn't give a shit.

exactly its a complete obsession / dedication / lifestyle and basically no one cares except for maybe 30 second - 3 minutes here and there interspersed in a life of total anonymity and societal indifference

yeah i've come to realize and appreciate the insanity and discipline of it. they must be completely obsessed with it, to a point of sickness really. it has to be to escape/distract from reality. you just disappear into your instrument for 8 hours a day. they're probably all shut-in freaks.

wasn't schopenhauer a big musicmo? said live music was the finest art because it is performed anew every time.

they're amazing technicians but jfc it's such a conservative genre. like the opposite of jazz. "let's see how good we can get at playing the same three songs our entire lives."
