Thankfully, we don't let regular folks invest in risky things at low valuations privately, but we let them invest in risky things at sky high valuations publicly.

These seems like around the expected sell off after an IPO. The only thing weird about it is that it soared so much after the IPO. I guess that was because of retail investor meme stocking?

SpaceX only went public because it knew sophisticated investors refused to value it like the stupid public would and now that stupid public gets a 50% loss on their hands 1 month after.

And no, most IPOs do not drop 30-40% from their opening price witih a month.

It's down about 15% from It's IPO price, which is fairly normal. I'm saying that the massive run-up, which you're taking into account, is unusual. And it's also pretty ordinary that something the explodes like that quickly crashed back down. Especially meme stocks.

Of course investors are cashing in by selling on the public market. That's what an IPO is.

ur a misleading faggot kike. This was a tiny issuance for the size of the company and barely anyone, esp retail, got $135. And as for the clear point I was making about it trading on the secondary market to gape the notice public, you should... look at the price they could actually buy it for? Starting at its very first trade price.

Fuck you kikes. You all deserve death.

You're the one being misleading and you're so perpetually angry to any disagreement. You're griping about about allowing investors to buy stocks at "sky high valuations" but it's only down a moderate amount from it's IPO valuation and the downswing is pretty ordinary for an IPO. You're being dishonest by calling the ATH caused by retail investors speculating the "valuation."

BTW I don't think SpaceX is worth much and think it's very bad we're allowing companies with no profit to IPO as bluecchips that will have to be acquired by market aggregation funds that people rely on for conservative retirement investing. Buy you MDS dorks have to embellish and misrepresent everything. It's just like TDS. When there's plenty of honest criticisms, why resort to lies?

lol no fag. Retail investors who bought are not holding at an average of $135 after day 1.

The price available to the retail/the market, is NOT the allocation price available to a few, but the first trading price where people can actually buy it at.

Gas yourself kike.

Then answer my question: what is the remedy? Or are you just bitching about how stocks are volatile when there's mass speculation?

The market price of anything reflects it's value at that moment in time. There is no way to prevent people from buying overvalued things because there's no way to prove that somethings "real" value is significantly different from it's market value.

There's no way to prevent people from doing this aside from keeping them out of the market entirely. Which I think we should do in this case, i.e. SEC rules should not have been changed to permit this IPO especially when passive investors will be forced to acquire it. But you can say that without misrepresenting the situation by saying SpaceX is down 50%, which was driven by post-IPO speculation from the market.

btw, are u really that dumb? u could easily force a larger required free float. If spacex had to list 50% of its shares in the IPO, instead of like 5%, I guarantee you this issue would not have happened.

YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT POST-IPO, NOT THE IPO VALUATON. THIS IS NO DIFFERENT THAN ALL THE OTHER STOCKS THAT GET HYPED FOR SOME REASON AND CRASH QUICKLY.

The float has nothing to do with it. The % of the stock the market has access to does not impact it's day to day value for rational actors. The fact that WSB retards meme shit and don't understand what they're buying can't be helped.

Retail at the $135 IPO price: approximately 111.1 million shares, worth $15.0 billion. Retail ultimately received 20% of the 555.6 million-share offering, despite up to 30% initially being reserved.

Retail bought on day one: approximately 2.8 million net shares, based on $453 million of net retail buying and an estimated average price around $160.

So retail acquired roughly 40× more shares through the IPO allocation than through net purchases on the first trading day. The day-one figure is estimated because the reported data gives dollars, not an exact share count.

He was here yesterday and didn't poast in any of the TSLA threads directed at him specifically. Seems like he's tired of getting baited into rehashing the same shit from the same people over and over. He's a rode model for me on that one.

The real idiocy in all of this is to "value" a company based on the structured scarcity of a 5% float. Cf. 90% of Google stock is publicly traded.

If Gay-X issued 5% more, its "value" would crater.

You're right to ask that question. Allow me to illustrate with the Socratic method: What do you imagine the "value of SPCX" would be if Elon had been zany and made an IPO offering of just 100 shares?

It would be much higher due to the scarcity you described.

You're misunderstanding me. I'm not disputing that a low float can result in a higher valuation due to the scarcity. I'm asking why that's concerning to you.

is he able to use the purported value of his shares as collateral for loans, to qualify for passing stock benchmark incentive thresholds personally and other purposes? does grandma get inadvertently invested into this sticking pile of garbage through her passive investing or pension?

Anyone extending SpaceX a loan is sophisticated enough to understand that valuing a company is more nuanced than share price x publicly available shares.

Elon retains majority control so manipulating his personal comp via financial wizardry isn't much of a concern, if any such performance incentives even exist.

I spoke to how such a turd of a company publicly debuting as a blue chip stock is really bad above. But putting more of the company on the market would make this worse, not better.

why do you think he went public like this then - just to rape grandma?

i think he's really nefarious and a lying piece of shit; he had promised over and over and over again that he wouldn't bring spacex public until there were regular flights to mars, given public company massive pressure for quarterly earnings/short termism

I agree that going public was about raising funds without much concern about Grandma's 401k. But that's outside the scope of what I'm probing EPAH about: why the float and how thar impacts the valuation matters to him. As I said, putting more of the company on the market would mean passive investors would acquire more, not less, so that can't be the reason he's concerned.

Since he's disappeared I'll just lay out what I'm gearing toward: I think he's just pissed this will make Musk and SpaceX's market-derived valuation higher than it should be, which makes him upset because it'll be reported that Musk is worth $X when he's really not. But it has no impact other than that. An arbitrarily increased valuation doesn't confer any financial advantage and won't fuck over investors. And it doesn't fuck over retail investors either, who have no ides what float is. (Note that EPAH immediately moved from float to total shares in his response. SpaceX could've issued 10x shares at 5% float and the share price would be 1/10th, but investing $X dollars buys the same % of the company)

sure, i understand that

"I agree that going public was about raising funds without much concern about Grandma's 401k" without much concern about grandma's 401k, or a *deliberate financial predation on grandma's 401k* was really what i was asking about

why does he need to raise funds now on the public market? for what purpose?

Did you listen to his Economist interview?

My appraisal of Elon is that he sincerely believes in this shit and that he's working to make humanity better. He doesn't even think money will matter in 10 years and has been consistently annoyed that financial markets exist and how much energy is spent on capital allocation. So, I think his thought process was essentially "SpaceX will make humanity better, getting more money will accelerate that, Grandma has free will in whether to buy, and she'll be better off anyway."

I disagree with much of that. But I don't think his motivation is to screw Grandma for personal gain. He could already live the best possible RSF hedonism for thousands of years if he wanted. But I'm sure many disagree.

Regardless, that's a long winded way of saying: He wanted to raise money.

i didn't watch the interview, i think he's retarded when he speaks or tweets, boring and sooooo basic

(yes yes he's worlds richest man and i'm not, thanks)

personally i think he is 80% grifter, 20% new tech. he sells dreams to people, that's what he's good at. hes made endless promises and always pushes them off, what matters isnt delivery but keeping the promises alive. he's GOAT at that

As I said I don't think he's correct on a lot and I wouldn't use his wealth to pwn you anyway. I'm just saying that I think he's sincere. He's an autistic engineer phenotype, scamming isn't in his blood, and if it was there's really not point to it now.

He sincerely believes that in 10 years we'll be governed by AI in a post-scarcity society. Call that retarded (I do), but it's sincerely held and not about grifting. He also said he's holding control because he knows he'll be spending a shit ton on space bases that won't be profitable for a while, if ever. Again, not the type of thing a grifter would say to gin up investment.

personally i think a good insight into his character is when he paid the #1 player of some video game to make his personal account the #1 player in the world, then musk livestreamed him playing it and he didn't even know how to use the basic commands, he made a total joke of himself

the grifting isn't for money -- he's "world's richest man" (no, the rothschilds are) -- its to inflate his fragile ego that he's not the dork nerd stutterer who got picked on as a child, that he's now "the winner"

He definitely has an ego and something to prove. But we're talking about why he did the IPO. Raising money off the backs of Grandmas' 401k doesn't seem calculated to change anyone's mind about whether he's a cool bro.

But speculating on this doesnt matter, we can never truly know. I think he wants to better humanity (despite personally feeling he's misguided here), you seem to think it's something more selfish. But we agree that it is a bad thing.

Thank you for clarifying that. I apologize for misunderstanding the question, so please allow me to answer the question that you actually asked (haha).

I'm not particularly concerned by it. But that methodology leads "financial journalists" to write retarded headlines like, "SPCX has lost more than the entire value of Tesla in just six weeks!" And then those headlines get repeated by proles, when they have no actual bearing on any economic "value."

By comparison ChatGayPT says that 70-75% of TSLA is in public hands.

LOL see my response to Consuela I was writing while you responded. My point in asking was teasing out whether your concern was rooted in how that value would is presented and if you understood that had little real significance financially.

This is an embarassing post. Companies also raise capital by issuing shares post-IPO.

I think you're not getting it. When Google has 12B publicly traded shares valued at $350 each and decides to issue 100M more to raise capital, it barely moves the needle, b/c plenty of people would buy at $345.

But GayX currently has 5% of its shares in circulation. If it tried to raise capital by issuing another 3%, it would send the price into the shitter, and cut the "value" of the company in half.

Does that make sense?

This only makes sense if you reject efficient market theory but believe that traders take into account a shares equity interest. Those positions are incompatible.
