Found it sitting there, perfectly intact. A whole rotisserie chicken, abandoned between the Hot Wheels and Play-Doh. Still warm.
At first, I was angry.
But then I thought about it. Whoever left it? They gave up. Mid-shop, mid-thought, mid-life. The weight of exi$tence became too much, and they just… walked away.
I picked it up, carried it back to the deli. Looked at my reflection in the sneeze guard and whispered, “Yes, friend. I, too, want to leave things behind.”
