So there's this unusual situation which is rare where the top 2 candidates from the first round of voting advance but additionally any candidate who scores 12.5% or better also advances to the final round. The French call this a "triangle" situation. So in situations where there's a socialist, a macronist, and a conservative the socialists are going to drop out and tell their voters to vote for Macron's party to block the RN. It's not going to wipe out all the RN seats in parliament but it will block enough of them to where they don't get to pick the Prime Minister and control the government. It will never happen.
The fix is built in to their whole election system. Madness. |

It's like our House if the Senate didn't have much power so it's really for total control of the legislature, and you get to pick the Prime Minister which is a big deal. If RN (conservative) does somehow hang on to win, it completely undermines Macron from being able to do anything at all.
Macron seemingly understood the back door handshake between himself and Melenchon (a sort of more radical, much more evil Bernie Sanders). Even though French leftists don't like Macron at all and hate his government, Melenchon is retracting the candidates that would compete against Macron. So to a lefty AOC type going to vote next Sunday the ballot will be between Biden and what they perceive to be Literally Hitler. The Fix is completely in.
This means endless immigration and the government paying for more lesbian couples from Africa to start test tube families. You have no idea. The cons (who haven't had power since before WWII) will never get their country back. It's even more rigged than here. |

First I thought he was crazy, then I thought he was an evil genius, then crazy, then back again. He clearly had a backroom handshake with Jean-Luc Mélenchon. JLM I believe has only ever wanted to be Prime Minister, which he will be. It would be like if Bernie became Speaker of the House. It's a lot of power and visibility and his party has been growing in the elections. It actually sets him up to run for President in 3 years very nicely. 2027 looks like it will be Jean-Luc and the radical socialists against Bardella/Marine or someone in the Le Pen family.
While Macron's little personal party is fading away he did this all to cuck the Right. The whole point was to show the country that even though they are the most popular individual party, they're only a third of the electorate overall and varying degrees of shitlibbery make up more than 50%. So yes Macron had a plan and it's all happening the way he'd imagined. It's only a matter of time before the Thoughtful Moderates in the middle become irrelevant as the left and right wing populists continue to gain traction.
In other Euro countries the moderates have sided with the far right in exchange for sharing power. Looks like Macron will let the far left have it's day because they're "all on the same side. |

What's slimy in the French election is the 12.5% advancement rule. Sure, have an open primary and then a runoff. Personally I prefer parties have closed primaries and then a general like in the US. But the whole idea with first round is it's the most democratic. Every little micro party gets some votes. And then round two is let's put on our big boy pants and hold a runoff. Ok fine. But a runoff shouldn't have three candidates because we feel bad for the third place guy and by the way two parties can maneuver so that the more electable candidate can beat the third guy. It's too conniving. I'm not even a fan of open primaries or like in some states where the runoff is between two candidates from the same party because the opposition candidate came in third. It's all so bogus. |
