The solution is a combination of immigration restriction so that workers have negotiating power, ending federally subsidized education loans so that college prices go down, higher standards in secondary education so that college is less necessary and isn’t remedial high school anymore, and changes to trade policy so that productive work is no longer concentrated in a small handful of areas and people aren’t constrained by housing. Short term solutions for individuals buried in debt would be to make student loans dischargeable in bankruptcy.
Loan forgiveness is just a lazy excuse for Dunning-Kruger liberals to avoid the hard work and hard questions. It’s simple, it’s easy, it requires nothing hard from the proponents, and they get to pretend like they helped someone out while the underlying remain unresolved. |

In fact they will probably have even more debt since they will price the probability of having debt forgiven into their willingness to pay a college.
Everyone who forewent college, paid off their debts, or chose a more affordable college will see their expenses increase as the cash flows that were once directed at student loans now flow into the next limiting resource (probably housing in the current economy).
Wage pressure on employers decreases with the influx of workers who no longer need higher wages to service education loans, screwing over the next generation yet again.
In the long run, tax burdens will have to increase since the interest expense that once was factored into federal budgets has disappeared and the government has taken huge asset losses as they write off loans.
The problem is not that people have education debt; it’s that workers have no negotiating power and are willing to take on enormous educational loans in the hopes of securing a small working advantage.
Edit: and yes, you will be impacted by forgiveness. If your daughter comes to the US and tries to get a college education here, she will be loaded with massive amounts of debt (your Thai wages aren’t going to cover a US college education). |

If employers had to compete for workers, workers wouldn’t have to get these ridiculous degrees, and employees would pay for training their workers and would compete to retain them. Instead, workers basically have to come to their job trained, and employers (Amazon being an excellent example) churn through workers and use regularly firing workers as a primary management tool. |
