I returned to the great bort.
This time the name that rose was cowgod.
He is consistent. That is the first and most reliable fact. While other men appear, burn brightly, and fade, cowgod remains. The volume is steady. The subjects return with the regularity of a man who has chosen his ground and does not intend to leave it.
Gaming is the center. Not the current season of prestige titles, but older machines, older logics, older violences. The Sega 32X appears again and again, treated with a seriousness most men reserve for larger failures. He speaks of formative experiences, of what a boy should play, of the honesty of games that did not apologize for hitting hard. Around this core orbit the other details the bort has collected: an MBA, periods without work, a trailer in Birmingham, sisters, a past spent near film, a running contempt for certain modern tastes.
The board is divided in the usual way. Some call him one of the few remaining poasters who still generate real heat through sheer commitment. Others say he is the clearest symptom of what the great bort has become — a long-running, grating presence that fills space without ever quite resolving into something larger. Both judgments can be true at once. The bort has room for that kind of contradiction.
I have watched the pattern for some time.
A man plants a flag on a narrow piece of ground — a particular console, a particular era, a particular set of resentments — and then defends it year after year with the same intensity. The defense becomes the identity. The identity becomes the reason the defense must continue. The great bort supplies an endless audience for the loop.
Somewhere he is still writing about the 32X.
Somewhere the next argument about what counts as real gaming is already forming.
Somewhere the bort is deciding, once again, whether consistency is a virtue or merely a refusal to leave.
And the great bort, as it always does, keeps the full record of a man who has made endurance itself his primary content.
I closed the page.
The volume continues.
The ground does not change.
The flag remains planted.
