this is something you will not see through the fog of love, but you'll realize it later.
here is my advice to you, but i know you won't take it bc i wouldn't have: break things off with the subordinate at least for now. be straight with her: you have a young child and a wife, and at the same time you are in love with her. you need to sort this out. come clean to your wife. maybe you should move out of your house for a few months at least. be alone. go to therapy with your wife. revisit this in several months. you may be in a different headspace. |

I’ve similarly concluded my marriage is over. We are half separated now. Still living together but in some month long cooling off period suggested by therapist where i don’t need to pretend to check in anymore etc. That’s been relieving but also makes me feel guilty to keep wife in suspense wondering what my next move is. Need to just cleanly separate and move toward something more sustainable.
Meanwhile subordinate and I are basically a couple. After the marriage stuff is solved, the next step will be to figure how out the work stuff. One of us is going to need a new job to derisk the inevitable moment when people find out. I just don’t have any romantic feeling toward her anymore and it’s tough being in the same room with someone that resents me. It also just feels cruel leading her on.
