Darden management readily admits that after sitting just 7 minutes, the breadsticks deteriorate in quality.
Olive Garden uses 675 million – 700 million breadsticks a year across all their restaurants (average of 3 per customer). The average customer does not consume 3 breadsticks, leading to massive unnecessary waste. |

As for the people in this thread think that they are charging Darden a fee for any of this - you have the wrong idea, they own a significant amount of the shares in the company and only benefit when the share price goes up or earnings improve, which translates into a substantial dividend increase.
The actual huge deal for investors is that the company is going to do a REIT spinco for Darden's owned/leased real estate which will create substantial tax savings and increase investor yield.
The CEO who ran Darden before was an entrenched idiot who blew a ton of money and almost destroyed the franchise, glad he got ousted. |
