i bought a herman miller embody and returned it b/c it was not comfortable

on the other hand, i use a haworth fern every day and i plan on getting one when my current chair breaks

the last few chairs ive had were amazon basics high back executive office chairs and they were pretty good. my main complaint was they break after 4-5 years.

I have this, with the tri flex back: https://store.hermanmiller.com/office-chairs-ergonomic-chairs/mirra-2-chair/100612201.html?lang=en_US&sku=100612201

I like it more than the Aeron. The back is nicer than the canvassy Aerson back.

As others have said, you should go to a store and sit in the various chairs before buying. I got mine at a used office furniture store, which had lots of different chairs to try and was much cheaper than buying new.

Also--Previously, I had a stiff Ikea office chair that was $50. It was 90% as good as an expensive office chair at less than 10% the price. It's still holding up fine and is in one of my kids' rooms. I only upgraded because my firm had a $500 use it or lose it office supply and furnishing budget.

My chair came from an abandoned bank that used to occupy the floor beneath my old office. The elevator would still stop there and i found an old leather and solid wood chair that’s very comfortable and looks cool. Old shit is just better and lasts forever. Can probably find cool shit on facebook marketplace.

Reminiscent of the Autoadmit experience in that regard: if you're expecting heavy conversation you get light comic relief, but if you're expecting lighthearted distraction you get heavy thought provoking wisdom (and at times even prompted when least expected to heavy contemplation of humanity's fascinating divergences in mental stability or lack thereof)

The crazy things with chairs I've noticed is that two can look so similar (like the real thing vs. a knockoff) or even feel so similar AT FIRST, but then after an entire day you start really feeling the difference, and then as time goes on it's really noticeable.

But then again it's also funny how certain brands just work for our specific needs or don't - for example I love how Birkenstocks make my body feel after a day on my feet (I'm gay in case I haven't made that clear by now) but other equally expensive brands supposedly made for similar support needs just don't work for me

the reall benefit of these things isnt the immediate cost savings, which are oddly not great, but the chance to connect with rich people redoing their house who want to get rid of all their shit, not just the eames chairs.

they pay a ridiculous fee to the brokers, its like 40%. so yousave that and probably more when you cut them out

I'm copping an aeron remastered from HM sale with Atlas headrest. Just need to decide between regular or onyx

The eames office chair looks like some 1980s quack office shit. The actual eames chair with ottoman (like on Shark Tank) would be a nice addition tho

avoid gaming chairs or online DTC companies. some of the latter can be decent but don't have the reliability and track record of a herman miller or steelcase. if something goes wrong with a DTC chair, good luck fixing or repairing it.

at a job in the 2000s, i had a steelcase chair from the 80s. it was perfectly functional and comfortable 20+ years later. they replaced chairs and i took the steelcase home. used it for another 10 years.
