The problem is that car manufacturers aren't really interested in making EV's that consumers want.
Ford only has two fucking designs. And when people decided that they didn't like them, Ford just said, "Welp, looks like the market doesn't want EV"
How about you make a $30k EV that people can afford???

The 2 design capture the 2 most popular segments. 1 is a compact sport crossover (I have a Mustang Mach E GT, and it is a 180 car) which competes with the Model Y and does it very well, and the other is a pickup truck. The former is actually one of the best selling EVs on the market so by no means a failure. The latter was arguably a failure but so far there are zero successful EV pickups because hauling/towing kills range to a degree that makes them impractical for their intended purpose for a significant number of people.
In general, EVs aren't a cheap tech and aren't really for budget people. But for fun I built out a Mustang GT to compete with my Mustang Mach-E GT in terms of performance and it came out very similarly despite the EV being more practical in many ways (has 4 doors and more space). Maintenance, repairs and fuel will also be a fraction of the ICE vehicle.

There are plenty of budget shitty cars. For EVs they had the Bolt/Volt and all that bs. They sucked. Gas cars in that price range suck too. Enjoy your Corolla or Civic or whatever. No one really cares about these segments because margins are low and the cars are shit no one is excited about. The exception is the Chinese but that's a whole different conversation and not relevant to the US market.

enjoy your time with current vehicle. In 8 years, car prices will drop to $10,000, but you will need a monthly subscription to drive, new $6500 battery after 5 years/50K miles in addition to insurance, regular maintenance (or all warranties are void), new tires that can only be inflated at a dealership, and electricity to charge. You will never stop paying. And every year, a new version will come out and you will want it, and your $10K car of 3 years will now be worth $1438.63, but the dealer will throw some goodies into your new car like heated rearview mirror or dash mounted mini vacuum to remove fastfood crumbs, or "Driver Assist" which notifies you of other cars in your lane up to 30 feet away. Or app-controlled driver seat lumbar support, but that would cost extra. And of course, a heated cup holder for those chilly morning drives to work because no one owns insulated Yeti mugs or whatever and you need this.

i bought a 2021 Tesla Model 3 with 10k miles for $20k cash. It's absurd how cheap "driving" can be.
I also have a 2022 G63 (paid off)

Im still scratching my head why idiots mention cash for clunkers when the supposed mpg requirement was lower than most any fuel injected non-truck could manage. This is something to bring up among the Dodge D-150 fandom or something, not for Cars writ large.
Not to mention it was hundreds of thousands of vehicles crushed, not millions
The actual real thing that change is that that GM and Chrysler went bankrupt and reorganized. Union contracts mandated that they overproduce millions of Saturn/Buick/Oldsmobile/Dodge/Plymouth/Pontiac shitmobiles to soak up prole demand prior to their Ruination. 90s proles drove a car for like 5 years. 3 years before NAFTA.
