A new report from the Bloomberg news service shows that at least 15 people have died in Teslas when the vehicle's doors would not open following a crash. According to the report, the doors of Tesla models have been known to trap occupants inside potentially burning vehicles. Tesla recently unveiled a new website detailing how its electrically powered doors will automatically unlock following a crash, though the feature may not work on older models.

Date: February 5th, 2026 10:24 AM Author: woah (hitler did nothing wrong) Doesn't matter what kind of door handle you have, in a severe enough crash to start a battery fire the sheet metal of the frame itself is probably so distorted that the door can't move. That's why the jaws of life have been used for decades before EVs were a thing. Also very little discussion of how dead the occupants were before the fire and entrapment, you have to very massively destroy a car to set it on fire these days.
