Any tips for getting a 6 and 3 year old to make it through mass?

lol @ goyim. no 3 y/o sits thru shul. why would you expect them to? they either stay home w/ the wife, or there are kids play groups. a 3 y/o cant sit quiet in a chair for a 2 hr religious service. wtf are u thinking.
even the 6yo has no business being in a religious service for more than 10 minutes of sitting you to practice behaving. you think he knows wtf is going on on a meaningful level?

They don't have child care set up somewhere in the building? I thought everyone had that. What about Sunday school?
Anyway, our normal routine when we had young kids was Grandma and Grandpa go to early service, we drop the kids off to them in the parking lot, and then they keep them so we have a few hours of peace until we get together for an early dinner at 3 or 4.

Doesnt your church have a glass bubble room where parents with unruly kids can sit?
Please dont bring disruptive kids to church.
Why not have one parent do Saturday evening mass solo, and that one can stay home Sunday with 3yo. The rest of you can go to mass Sunday.
Otherwise, a promise of ice cream after church works wonders.

Should probably sit this one out.
I would not say this if you hadn’t divorced ur wife.
Hell I would not say this if you had remarried.

We go to family mass which is right before CCD class, so full of kids. I recommend you do that if possible. As our priest tells parishioners, if someone comes to family mass and has a problem with crying kids, it's their problem.
Bring some quiet toys, like stuffed animals or matchbox cars. Promise donuts afterwards and threaten "no donuts" if they misbehave. Follow through on this. (There are free donuts available after our mass, which draws all the families.)
Hold the kid up so he or she can see what's happening. A lot of my kid's annoying behavior was caused by missing out on seeing things. Try to get them involved in the more interesting parts of mass, like exchanging signs of peace or speaking up if they take parishoners' prayers during the prayer of the faithful.
If the kid acts up and is flipping out, don't be afraid to pick him or her up and walk out. Our church is in NYC and doesn't have a crying room, so I literally had to take my younger kid outside 5-6 times between ages 3 and 4. Everyone knows it's hard, and it's really only tough for like a year or 18 months.
And geeze - when I go to mass while traveling to parishes in areas that don't have stuff like this, it is full of crazy old gray-haired people and I know the church is going to be shuttered (or doing Spanish mass only) in like 10 years. Don't stop bringing kids to church, it's the only way they might have a chance of doing it once they're an adult.

We ended up going and it was mostly ok. Brought a coloring book for both of them. Made it to communion but cut out right after. It was a “kids” mass so there were plenty of other kids around and many babies or other kids were making random noise.
I’m still pretty shitty as we’re only going once a month plus holy days of obligation.
