I was in produce at approximately 2:40 this morning — routine shrink audit, third night this week — when Marcus, the overnight lead, pulled into the lot in what I can only describe as a 2009 Corolla with a cracked rear bumper and a pine tree air freshener, and I thought: there it is. The administrative fact.

He has been here eleven months. He does not understand the schedule board. Last Tuesday, Tabitha documented — and I use that term loosely, as she was carrying the clipboard for a different matter entirely, which is fine, this is how things work here — that Marcus had "resolved" the dairy cooler situation in a manner inconsistent with established procedure.

There are procedures. They exist. I drafted a single memorandum on this subject in January. It was distributed.

The third-class passengers were gated below decks. Cameron was precise about this. The cooler runs at 38 degrees or it does not run at all, which is not a metaphor so much as what is written in the operational handbook I maintain, and which Marcus has apparently not read, or has read and chosen to disregard, which is a different kind of problem entirely.

Chad, who transferred from the Bellevue location in February, was not in produce at 2:40 AM. Chad does not do shrink audits. Chad does not need to.

How dare they.
