Let's say it hits local top, then sell +10% out of money calls 1 year from now for 15% profit. Then it pulls back and buy back the option at -5% . Then repeat

Reliably buying low and selling high actually isn't that hard in bitcoin as long as you are willing to wait on the sidelines for extended periods. Historically, at least

As the highs and lows flatten, it may become harder to time but will likely oscillate faster. I think this will happen to a degree, but if you're willing to scalp quick profits and wait on the sideline, you can probably make pretty reliable money each year

I just don't want to have to pay capital gains or worse ordinary income tax if my options get called for a measly 15% profit. The idea is to let the options expire or buy them back without selling the underlying security.

Let's say butcoin is at 80k. I sell a covered call expiring in 1 year for 90k at 15%. Then bitcoin drops to 70k 1 month later and I can close that position at 3%. The only problem is if it keeps climbing then my dividends are gone. I'll experiment with this in my roth account first

I think if you have 1million of bitcoin it is realistic to make 200k from dividends without selling any. But since I missed out the opportunity to buy more last month I am scrweed

I just saw you're talking about options. Didn't realize that's what you meant. You know you're going to incur capital gains or ordinary income with options too, right (depends on how long it takes to close the option)?

I wouldn't touch leverage or any kind of derivatives on bitcoin. It's a good way to get wrecked. Just buy/sell coins since it's no different from a gains/income perspective
