The mental Barrier of having to ask some Loser Gatekeeper to get something from behind the counter was enough to make me go, “you know what? Fuck this, I’ll just not play that game,” numerous times, if I’m honest. Renting felt more frictionless somehow. Like less of a commitment. Less of a ratification of Low Loser identity.
