Take a picture of your broken appliance and it will tell you what's wrong, how to troubleshoot it, give you a link to the part to buy, and tell you if it is something that you can do yourself.
Obviously it's not going to completely replace tradesmen, but their risk profile probably isn't too dissimimlar from lawyers. |

Also you can already see the effects of mass production in any modern shitsuburb. Build a house on the same principles as an IKEA table - what could go wrong? Paper thin walls, no use of traditional materials or construction methods, just slap a new coat of paint or cheap siding on it and hope you sell before it rots or falls down.
