You have discovered something unbearable in the place where you expected the Good. But why call that discovery “evil,” and why conclude that it belongs to a Godhead?

Consuela remarked : I went deep enough into God and discovered something horrifying there

And Lacan said back: "Yes, but perhaps what you discovered was not “God's evil.” Perhaps you encountered the obscene underside of your relation to the Other."

i've actually parsed this in detail tonight with my LLM, causing me to inadvertently discover a revolutionary synthesis of Jungianism and Catholic theology that i believe is novel in the field

I know someone else who did something similar, and now they have a substack. But it isn't as straightforward as a synthesis. The thinker behind it is much more dissident.

wow it can be hard to toe that line between dissident and evasive. a lot of guys end up not holding onto any principle very strongly, because they're so reactive. sounds like this person has really achieved something important by being this complex, while sticking to a coherent narrative about evil in the godhead and a non-redemptive worldview.

Yes oftentimes you will run into people who treat Jungian psychoanalysis as if it were a general explanatory science rather than one hermeneutic vocabulary among others, and then stack a bunch of abstractions and reify them using the metaphor as evidence for a historical theory. But this particular author is able to avoid that common pitfall.
