This is just Observable
People love to harp on about screens and zoomers and anomie etc but noone is really outlaying the granularity and narcissistic ego war chain of custody IMO
Everyone is in a psychosomatic nuclear MAD phenotype battleship game At All Times IMHO

pure psychological warfare - the cattle are fed oils seeds and reduced to waddling around they're absolutely massive so they get in your space just lards of fat rolling off them them brushing you slightly and their fat is so soft it just morphs time and space and resets in a different position.
ate out in the morning for the first time in ages - getting to a seat was pure hell - "people" were 2-3 sizes bigger than the chair they were sitting in - stepping over monsters - literal horror movie - many were wearing halloween shirts too.

I think there's actually a lot of truth to the OP
If you have a poor phenotype, you're never actually going to be a Winner in real life, barring exceptional circumstances. Over time, it became obvious to people with poorer phenotypes that they had a much better chance at being Somebody Online than they would ever have IRL
This had a snowballing effect as more and more people realized this and turned Online rather than to IRL. Now we're at the point where the people who actually have good phenotypes are *also* Online, but they're posting pics and short form videos of themselves in order to advertise their superior phenotypes for status
I actually wrote about this same phenomenon like...over 10 years ago. Not about the phenotype aspect, but about 21st century Online providing alternative social ecosystems that "compete" with IRL that are more/less attractive to certain people and groups based on their characteristics and preferences
