upcharging on alcohol is a tale as old as time. american and english pubs used to offer the after-work blue-collar crowd free meals just to get them in the door.
you are almost always paying for something other than "alcohol" when you are paying for alcohol e.g. getting pussy or getting shitfaced, furthermore these are both circumstances under which your prudence and good judgment are compromised.
