Square Enix Holdings announced on the 21st that it will be incorporating Google's generative AI (artificial intelligence) "Gemini" into its online RPG (role-playing game) "Dragon Quest 10." Gemini will appear as an interactive character that can converse with players within the game. It will automatically generate responses to players by recognizing voice, text input, and the game screen.
The AI is incorporated into the in-game conversational buddy, "Chatty Slimey." Set as a "Grim Reaper in training," Slimey records the player's game history in a "Grim Reaper's Notebook." In addition to engaging in conversational-like interactions, Slimey also provides advice to help players progress through the game.
Dragon Quest X, the first online RPG in the popular "Dragon Quest" series, launched in 2012. After numerous updates, it still boasts hundreds of thousands of monthly users. Square Enix Holdings plans to continue incorporating AI into its games.
