You get $4M, tax free today.

Then, approximately once per year for the rest of your life, someone will break a glass in your house overnight, in the wee hours of the morning. If you have suitable glasses (or beer bottles, etc.) it might be one of those. If you don't, it'll be a random, standard glass, wine glass, beer bottle, etc.

The glass will shatter in the way a glass typically does when dropped onto a tile floor from a few feet up.

But, it'll happen in a random location in your house. It's just as likely to be a carpeted corner of your living room as it is on the middle of the tile in your bathroom.

The "someone" who breaks the glass is kind of like a ghost or apparition. Not in a spooky way. Just the glass kind of breaks on its own, when no one is around.

Do you accept?

Sure, seems ok. My wife’s job is now to put on her house boots and scan the house for broken glass every morning. Worst case I step on a piece of glass when I get up which is NBD. After that we do whatever. Beats current setup.

Stepping on a piece of glass sucks. It's definitely not NBD. And the Fear of the potential for it every step, every day would be stressful.

How does the $4M change your life?

couldn't you just install those ground motion sensor lazers like that european guy dances through in Ocean 12 and program them to only go off in a certain zone if they're only tripped in that zone. that way you'd know exactly where the glass was broken and could dispatch your robot vacuum to sweep that shit up wtf easy af hypo

The glass will just sort of appear broken. It'll be an ethereal and undetectable presence until it's at rest, broken and on the ground. So, no motion detectors. They won't work.

I guess you could rig up some sort of camera and AI analysis system to detect the changes on the floor, if you're able and inclined.

Robo vacuum is OK, but it's probably not good at getting up all tiny pieces of glass. And it's definitely not good at getting into corners, in tight spaces, etc.

you're changing the hypo. the original prompt was (emphasis added):

Then, approximately once per year for the rest of your life, SOMEONE will break a glass in your house overnight, in the wee hours of the morning. If you have suitable glasses (or beer bottles, etc.) it might be one of those. If you don't, it'll be a random, standard glass, wine glass, beer bottle, etc.

*****The glass will shatter in the way a glass typically does when dropped onto a tile floor from a few feet up.*****

in this case, my system defeats the hypo. and it's not particularly complex or innovative. gay hypo

Why is this at all concerning? Are people imagining that because glass is usually clear, you wouldn’t be able to see it when you start walking around the next morning? Wouldn’t you just see it and sweep it up? I probably average one broken glass a year anyway, so this would make two.

Broken glass is a bit of a pain when you know it's there and can clean it up. It would be a much bigger burden not knowing when and where you have a broken glass--only that about once per year, you will have a broken glass.

So are you in? Are you taking any steps to avoid stepping in broken glass, or are you just not going to worry about it?
