Why do people say having a baby is expensive?

however, if you are buying full freight obamacare insurance without a subsidy, the cost is insane. And to add a kid to my small-law insurance (employer covers mine 100% but I'd pay 100% of any family members added) is like $900 per month per kid. That's literally the direct cost to the firm.
So basically, my wife is stuck working at a BIGCORP employer since it would be $2700/month to insure her and two kids through my job, or slightly less for a much shittier obamacare policy.
she pretty much can't be a SAHM right now because of this. I have to retire at the same time as her so we can slum it with almost-free subsidized obamacare, but I want to stay in the game and save up for another couple of years before I do that. I have like $4500 coming off my monthly nut in the next year or so from getting house and cars fully paid off. |
