The problem is that the grocery stores charge 30-40% more per item than they are in store off the bat. And on top of that they typically charge an 8-10 dollar fee for every order. So you are tipping on top of paying way more for the item and tipping on top of a fee. The fee goes to paying the tech company which in turn goes to paying the driver a wage.
They all get some kind of wage although they don't want you to know about this. So you're being ripped off by a grocery store, you're being ripped off by a tech company, and then you're expected to tip a slovenly third world mongrel for hauling your shit to you. I do this because even though I've been twice rekt by greedy corporations, I'm not gonna fuck over my app slave. They make no money and live in squalor. Every dollar counts to them.

It's pitting American against American and I'm not a fan of that.
I think based on principle, the customer is 100% right. A tip should not be obligatory.
But based on the specific circumstance of this woman ordering heavy water bottles and other large items, there should have been a generous tip.
So it's a toss-up, but just a generally awful, sad state of affairs for all involved because of corporate greed. |
