Officially crossed 10k spend on the BOAT rebuild

Date: January 31st, 2023 7:17 AM Author: Slap-happy plaza When I bought it for 15k the owner said it wld take another 10k. Sounds abt right:
-3.85k for HELLOSIRS to fix the deck rot (today agreed to pay $365 extra from original 3.4k whatever cause noticed some windows rotting, pretty sure this is the last rot, checked entire boat)
-3.85k for a new Main Sail. Looked at old mainsail and as prior birdshit owner said, Ill need new one. It has like 4-5 tears at edges, put that shit up in wind and entire sail will ripe.
- $775 on batteries, this is for 200ah of LIFEPO4 lithiums and 60AH for a portable battery bank
- $614 for two dinghys: first was just an inflatable shit one for $150 and then I got the HELLOSIR to go down a lot to fix the old birdshit dinghy that was rotting, before he wanted like 1k USD, im paying like 450ish now. He'll fiberglass the entire thing so it will be indestructible
- $261 for an electric outboard engine. I also got the old gas one fixed I guess for free or super cheap like $20. Still has a 2nd gas one I may sell for inshallah $750+
- Paid the HELLOSIR who's painting and varnishing $85 so far but Ill keep him for a full month and it will be like $395 working six days a week. He's doing a good jerb, the sitting area already looks one and he shld finish the main cabin this week
- Subtract $367 for selling the scuba tanks and another $600 I shld get for selling the compressor
- Budgeted a few hundred for getting a tablet, new nav equipment. Maybe will end up being a bit more but whatever
- Spending $46 on a new compost toilet, will get a proper marine toilet in Malaysia
Spend a few hundred on other random shit like paint and stuff for boat, whatever.
I'll probably end up getting to like $12,500, it doesnt matter if it's $15,000 who cares, thats 30k total for a 180 multihull

Date: January 31st, 2023 11:53 AM Author: Laughsome high-end messiness if you go electric you need a diesel generator so you are going to pay one way or the other. You are living in a fantasy world if you think you can just go solar.
I think the old diesel is the way to go, but you will need to learn how to work on it. If you want total reliability it is going to cost much more
you will only get 2 hrs of cruising run time out of your solar system, and less than 1 hr WOT. Electrical propulsion range will depend on the size of the available battery bank but a 40` sailing vessel requiring 4kW to achieve 5-6kts and utilising a 48v/200Ah battery bank (4x 12v/200Ah) would be able to travel for 2hrs at 5-6kts. Increasing the battery bank Ah size will allow a higher hull speed or greater range.

Date: January 31st, 2023 3:10 PM Author: Laughsome high-end messiness I don't think you have actually done the math. the math above is for 4 200ah batteries wired together. you can run at less than 1/2 speed for 2 hours or probably 40 minutes WOT.
You need more than this for safety and security at sea. you go out 10NM and you see a storm approaching. You had better hope that the wind is coming from the right direction because you do not have enough power to get to shore.
You will take your boat out much farther than 10 miles. You should be prepared to run near WOT into the wind for 24hrs.
If the engine breaks you don't even have a spare anchor so you better hope the ungalvanized and rusty old chain and anchor hold when the storm hits with a 20 ft swell and a 40kt wind blowing you toward the rocks.
every cruising sailboat being sold with electric propulsion has a built in generator, and most have one powerful enough to directly run the motor. The Oceanvolt or torquedo systems are probably around 40k installed so even if you can do it for 1/4 the price you should still plan on 10k+ for the system.
Hope you got a good main sail for 3700$

and i fouind the spare anhcor, the hellosir had put it under the hull in kitchen also found a 7th dive tank
oh and the diesel engine worked today, all for 55usd paid to old HELLOSIR who spent all day fixing it |

did you order a new main sail or did you buy used? with 12v 100AH batteries you would need 16 batteries for a 400ah 48v power reserve. this would still be too little for safety but would work for most needs.
