Coastal plains of the Western Gulf of Mexico, covered with lazy brown water streams and dense forests of loblolly pine and yaupon trees. Sometimes there’s a salt dome underfoot with lots of oil from the primeval past.

Yellowstone, too -very few geyser fields on Earth and Yellowstone is the biggest...by far. It holds half the geysers on earth.

If you just want to see forests, mountains, and valleys, they're both amazing. But if you want to see animals and crazy shit like geysers, boiling mud fields, and acidic springs, Yellowstone wins by default.

Lake Baikal is a weird freshwater lake on earth. It's the biggest by volume, the oldest and the deepest. Its also highly oxigenated which is weird as fuck for a lake 1700m Deep lake. It has hydrothermal vents! And It's estimated It might have 20km of sediments. It's weird as f*ck.

No place without volcanoes belongs here. The more the better. You will never find another place on earth that approximates the summit of a volcano, and each one is unique.

western/southwestern china has lots of crazy shit. everything from a giant sand dune desert to the himalayas to the valleys which were the basis for the shangri-la myths down near the burmese border. the biggest highest plains in the world. extremely remote mountain ranges with unclimbed summits. etc.

Cappadocia.

The soft volcanic rock was easy to carve and also looks other worldly due to unique erosion patterns. Goreme, Cappadocia was settled 3,000 years before zoning restrictions. It would be as if resorts could be built into our most prized national parks. Ulchisar castle itself is mind boggling, like a cave man castle or something you’d expect to see in a cartoon. There are also underground cities that you can tour that once housed 50,000+ people.
