Law is a very stressful profession. All surveys about work stress in the job market consistently show lawyer and doctors at the top of stress or general dissatisfaction. That's why so many lawyers have career changes every year.

Tech seems more versatile and merit-based. There is more job hopping in tech than law and what seems to matter is if you can perform. Ricky has had 11 jobs in two years. TSINAH was able to pull down a bunch of lucrative gigs immediately after leaving law (not saying that is my goal, he is an expert and has done it for decades).

There's not much left for me to discover in law either. Tech would be a new field where I could be motivated to learn a lot as it is a new field entirely and there's lots to discover. I think general curiosity is an important motivator for work life.

It would also be nice to have something where I could turn it off at 5pm or so and minimize the late nights and weekend work.

if you're genuinely interested in advice, here's the best I can offer:

- ignore code bootcamps. they're for pajeets by pajeets and they're only looking to take your money

- instead, find a project/interest/hobby in tech that excites you. maybe it's 3d printing, maybe it's working on an open source project: the point is, it doesn't matter

- every year of experience you have counts as three to an employer. that is to say, "pad your hours"

Financially it would be a hit initially but it seems like there is more upside in tech without having to put in the same number of hours as a lawyer unless you have CSLG type abilities.

I largely don't get it anymore. It seems like the computers are running away with everything to me. This is one reason why this place thrives. It is actual communication with actual poasters (except some deranged pumos). But you can't go anywhere on the internet and actually interact with real people anymore. Everything is fake.

Not easily, especially not right now. The entire industry is still feeling the effects of the layoffs in Big Tech a few years ago. Basically, a bunch of FAANG dudes got laid off and starting taking lower-tier jobs, which has led to a trickle down effect. The job market is very tight for new grads and inexperienced people right now. On top of that, enrollment in undergraduate CS programs has exploded in the past 5-10 years. You'll have to convince employers to hire a 40-year-old failed lawyer with no formal coding credentials rather than some 20-year-old with a CS degree and recent internships/experience. I'm not saying you can't do it, but know what you are getting into.
