At least within the parameters of your argument Obama gave up 6 years of legislative power to pass a piece of signature legislation and didn't sit on the fence. Axelrod talks about how Obama famously said that he could sit and stare at his accomplishments on the wall and do nothing but that wasn't why he ran for office in the first place.
Credit where it's due but even that version of Obama seems to be gone. He's somehow adopted the bad habits of his party now.
