I find the construction "friend group" very chilling and robotic.

Sometime in the last 15 years, people began saying or referring to their friends as a "friend group"
It always seemed out of left field to me, stilted speech.
"yeah my friend group are...."
"with my friend group..."
".. friend ..group..."
whats key imo is the insular, cliquey way it comes off. Its less about the friends, more about the delineation of the GROUP. The inside and the outside. Its almost like, these people arent even friends, they just enjoy the idea of being in a group, that is closed off
it also dovetails with a little bit of the lockdown extremely online stuff wrt online "friends" so maybe instead of calling them friends outright, theyre part of this amorphous irl/online "group" or weird ven diagram thing where they want to refer to discrete clusters
I dont have any friends myself fwiw. I just like to observe these things

i think it's mostly used to delineate between different 'friend groups'
like i have a 'gaming' friend group and a 'nazis' friend group and a 'normie guys in my professional industry' friend group as well as some other ones. there's not much overlap between them. i think most people in the Current Year are like this imho

This is what I mean, people have all of these compartmentalized "groups" they play around in and play act
Its all very chilling imo
Like the internet is 40 years old and its still so taboo to admit you can operate a computer and understand/accept the wisdom and majesty of national socialism
