Just quit; quit with help from AA; go to rehab and choose to do AA or not do AA (in other words the only options are cold turkey or AA and rehab just helps you get started on that.). What are some other methods you’ve seen where the person actually stays sober for five years or more?
I’ve never seen long term sobriety achieved through drugs alone. |

It happens all the time that a heavy drinker gets a DWI and stops drinking until they’re off probation. The alcoholic gets a DWI and continues to drink, even when they don’t want to. There are lots of alcoholics with five or more DWIs - they cannot stop themselves.
The heavy drinker can start up again and then quit again. |

i doubt many, if anyone, drank progressively more every single day before declaring themselves an alcoholic and never drinking again. did you? im sure before going to as you had attempts at tapering or taking a break that were somewhat successful. you certainly didn't consume more ethanol in an unbroken upward trend until you quit.
what happens when an alcoholic relpases? they don't consume the most alcohol they've ever consumed before and continue that trend until they quit again. |

i try to stick to light beer only, which makes the withdrawals easier to get through, but i've gained almost 20 lbs in 4 months from it
trying to go nodrink today. so far, so good after about 12 straight days of drinking & cutting down the last 2 days
need to lose the weight and get back to my exercise routine. drinking ruins both
