Was planning to never take golf lessons ever, and brag about being self-taught some day once I'm decent.
Wife has been taking lessons for a few months and forgot she had one scheduled today.
I sprinted there last second to not lose $100. Golf pro asked me what I want to work on, I said my driver barely goes farther than 3W even though club speed is >100.
He had me take 5 swings in a sim and immediately noticed backspin was over 5,000 RPM. Gave me 2 quick tips and 10 swings later I was down to low 3000s.
He showed me a comparison of my first and last swings and it was like amateur hour vs pro swing. Told me not to worry about club or ball speed and just keep drilling the same 2 tips until I get backspin down to 2,000s.
I left 15 minutes early and told him he needs a raise.
Holy fuck I should've done this a year ago.
We're gonna work on chipping and lob shots next week.

Nice... probably better to not get lessons right away as a complete beginner. I could see that overwhelming and frustrating most people our age.
My biggest regret is not reading Ben Hogan's five lessons when I first started.
It's like 1-2 hours on kindle vs countless hours wasted on YouTube and golf forums

I came late to golf, actually prodded into it by my oldest whose maternal grandfather gave him a set of golf clubs when he was five. Was always a tennis and squash player. Still play tennis but now I hit the courses whenever I can. It's a great way to bond with your kids.
My father loved golfing but he never attempted to introduce the game to me and it's the one thing that's always bothered me about my childhood, and probably the reason I never bothered taking up golfing when I was young.

Don't remember AOA. Spin loft was in 20s which is too high.
Basically he completely fixed my posture at setup, including how to get spine tilt at address (for driver only) instead of trying to generate it on downswing like Mclroy and DJ; that significantly reduced backspin and side spin.
He also fixed my wrist action on backswing, ie, more flexion and minimal pronation, which helps me keep left arm straight and square the face much better on downswing
